Dark Knight Gets the Shaft - 81st Annual Oscar Nominees Announced

I just watched the live broadcast and here are some of the standouts (full list below):

Mickey Rourke for Best Actor
Robert Downey Jr. and Heath Ledger for Best Supporting Actor
Slumdog Millionaire for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Director, and Best Picture
Doubt got many Acting noms including Best Supporting Actor for Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Best Actress for Meryl Streep, and Best Supporting Actress for Amy Adams
Frost/Nixon racked up in the big categories, but Doubt, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and Milk received the most noms.
Wall-e for Best Animated Picture (of course) and Best Original Screenplay (I like it)
Nominations for The Dark Knight were non-existent in the major categories other than Heath's Best Supporting nomination. However, it did receive many nominations for technical achievements...blah, blah, blah.
Surprises include: Kate Winslet getting the nom for The Reader instead of Revolutionary Road; Richard Jenkins' nom for The Vistitor; Michael Shannon's nom for Revolutionary Road; and Bruce Springsteen's nomination snub for Best Original Song.

I'm very disappointed in these nominations.

The Dark Knight should have been nominated for Best Picture, Chris Nolan should have been nominated for Best Director, The Wrestler most likely should have gotten a Best Picture nomination (I'm seeing it Saturday- will let you know), and Bruce Springsteen definitely should have gotten a nomination for the song "The Wrestler." Not only did this WIN the Golden Globe for this catorgy but I've listened to it over 50 times on iTunes. Why? Because I'm insane.

What is it with Slumdog Millionaire? Is it good? It had better be to be nominated for Best Picture over The Dark Knight. This is lame.

If any movie deserves to be nominated for Best Picture, it is Slumdog Millionaire. I have seen three of the five Best Picture nominees, and from what I have read about Frost/Nixon and The Reader, Slumdog is most certainly going to win Best Picture of the Year. The Reader is the movie that doesn't belong in either the Best Picture category or Best Director category. Replace The Reader with the Dark Knight in those two categories, and the academy would have gotten it right.

if this were a legitimate movie blog there would be a review of the wrestler and a top 10 of 2008 list up by now. sheesh.
