Remake Alert: The Seven Samurai Die by the Weinstein's Sword

The Weinstein Company announced a while back that they were looking to "re-imagine" (I am sick of these euphemisms) The Seven Samurai.

First of all, you will never know my anguish on the other end of your internet cable. I cannot imagine a new version of The Seven Samurai with today's wankers running the show. That is especially true for the egocentric Weinstein's. Plus, remakes (we will use the proper term from now on) have been done already with The Magnificent Seven being the most obvious and A Bug's Life being the most clever.

Next, they have hired John Fusco to script it.

Who?

Exactly.

Fusco's credits include Young Guns I and II, Hidalgo, and The Forbidden Kingdom.

Oh.

Here is what Fusco had to say in an interview with Geeks of Doom:

“I think some [movies] can be re-imagined and some can’t be. I do not believe any one should ever remake The Seven Samurai set in feudal Japan. [The new re-imagining of Seven Samurai] has a few respectful bows to the master Kurosawa, but I don’t consider it to be a remake by any stretch.”

Ok, so you don't believe The Seven Samurai should be remade? Yet, you continue to write the script. Wouldn't it just be easier for you to make your lame movie, and just admit you put a few nods and homages in there for good sport. Also, this new version is not going to have any samurai. But you are still using the title "The Seven Samurai." I just don't get it.

Don't piggy back your movie on one of the greatest cinematic achievements of all time just to get exposure and bank. It's people like the Weinstein's and John "whatshisface" that make me sick to my stomach. If you don't think it should be remade, then don't remake it. Don't call it a re-imagining, and don't use the same title. For crying out loud. Just be a man and say that you are stealing ideas from a great movie because you can't come up with any yourself. The shamelessness of Hollywood is killing cinema, and we just sit back and let these jerks makes fools of us all.

Remakes are usually always a bad idea. A remake from the Weinsteins is basically a kiss of death. As far as I am concerned, the Weinsteins have been nothing but anti-cinema for the past few years. God, I hate those guys.
