I know this ad is getting old by now but, every other site on the internet has this ad and I wanted it too! There is a lot of unjustified hate for Tropic Thunder, and while I ultimately want Heath Ledger to win the gold statue for his performance, I would not be saddened to see the "black Australian" take home the prize.

Ha ha ha. That's good. I also enjoy this one for The Dark Knight.
Personally, I'd be really pissed if Downey, Jr. got an Oscar for this performance.
Don't get me wrong, I thought he was the best part of Tropic Thunder but the fact remains that Tropic Thunder really wasn't that good. If Downey wasn't in this movie, there really wouldn't be anything to write home about.
So, honestly, even if he gets nominated I'll be a little disappointed. He was funny but nothing he did was Oscar worthy. I'm sorry, but it's Heath Ledger all the way for Best Supporting Actor. If Heath doesn't win the Oscar, I'm going to be so angry it's not even funny.
Wes, shame on you man. Because, for some strange reason, I thought we were beyond delusional fanboyism here on YDKS. But, if you want to live in a humorless world where predictable rom-com's and overrated stoner movies still make the grade, then knock yourself out my friend. It was silly of me to think that that actors besides Heath Ledger can put on some make-up and completely disappear inside of a role. In what may be just a decent film, I can think of many Oscar worthy reasons why Downey Jr.'s performance, to your acknowledgement no less, stands out so blatantly.
This may be beyond my control or scope, but you may want to give Tropic Thunder another chance just so you can eat your words that Down...wait, never mind. I don't know how many of the other likely to be nominated performances you've seen, but I am willing to bet that the Dark Knight has so blinded you that no one, at least not this year, will be able to stand up to Ledger's performance in your mind.
Who said this was delusional fanboyism? And who said I lived in a humorless world?
Downey turned in an enjoyable performance in a truly sub-par movie. Despite his performance being fun to watch, nothing about it was Oscar worthy.
Heath Ledger, on the other hand, did something I honestly have not seen any other actor do in quite some time. It wasn't Ledger. It was something else. No I probably haven't seen the other possible nominated performances and I'm not against seeing them. However, I seriously doubt anyone will be able to pull off the performance that Ledger managed to pull off himself. Something like that doesn't happen except for every other couple of years.
I don't see how that is delusional fanboyism. Ledger's performance was absolutely amazing. And yes, it was in a really good film. Downey's performance was fun but, honestly, it was just another performance in movie that wasn't that great. It just seems silly for them to be in the same category is all.
Still, if someone else can do better than him I'm all for it. I just seriously doubt that that is possible is all.
