Remake Alert: 'They Live'...To Ruin Everything

So apparently nothing is safe anymore. Its not like we don't already have enough bad movies. Movie watching has turned into a choice between watching a really bad movie or watching a really bad remake of the same thing.

Anyway, as you can tell from the title, They Live, the awesomely bad cult classic film from the legendary John Carpenter, is next up on the chopping block. The status of the project is currently in the negotiation stage. So, accordingly, there are no names attached in any of the major crew spots other than financing.

Surprisingly though, Carpenter and Shep Gordon, the original film's rights holders, are set to executive produce.

Here is a brief, well-written plot synopsis followed by the appropriate must-see video:

If you recall, They Live is the cult classic that follows Roddy Piper and his sunglasses around as they witness the truth about aliens and their preexisting residence on the planet Earth. It’s also well-known for its memorable scene in which Piper goes to great lengths to prove that he’s telling the truth to Keith David.

Also, in a related side note, you can watch The Thing in full screen for free at Hulu. But, because it is rated R, you have to join to watch. But, that's really no big deal!

I've known about this for a while now. I'm a big fan of the original. Rowdy Roddy Piper is awesome and that fight scene is ridiculous. A remake is always a bad idea but, as far as this goes, most people won't even know because the majority of the public have no idea this movie exists. As for Carpenter producing, he did the same thing for The Fog. It won't ensure any quality. As he stated back then, he thinks these remakes suck but he's in it for the money.

They Live was awesome and anyone who says otherwise is lame.
