Lethal Weapon 5 is Not Happening

In some non-Monster Fest related news, Lethal Weapon 5 is now dead in the water due to Mel Gibson passing on the project. According to /Film, Richard Donner, director of the original films, assumes that Gibson was not happy with the lack of his involvement as Warner Bros. decided to go with Joel Silver as a producer instead of Donner. It is also assumed that Donner was not attached to direct the project as well.

Apparently, Shane Black, the writer of the original Lethal Weapon and my personal childhood favorite Monster Squad, had turned in a pretty good treatment for the film. It would have been interesting to see another Lethal Weapon film written by Black as they definitely started to wane away from what made the series special as the films went on. I have to admit- I watched the first three films a lot back in the day. However, I never did get around to seeing the much-disliked fourth installment. I did catch some of it on TV one night and it felt disjointed to the point that it felt like I was watching three different movies at once. So, yeah... it probably wasn't that good.

Maybe this is for the best. After all, how many good part 5 movies have you seen? I mean, isn't it a little ridiculous when movies make it this far (*cough* Saw V *cough*)? It just seems like a little too much. How much story is there to tell anyways?

And yes, this article was mostly just an excuse to post that picture of Mel Gibson looking crazy as Riggs at the top.
