Monster Fest Video of the Day #6

Since it is Monster Fest here at YDKS Movies throughout the rest of the month of October, I figured I would try and start a new daily article (school work pending, of course) that features movie clips from various horror films. After all, what better way to celebrate Monster Fest than to watch video clips of cinema's greatest monsters?

Today (or rather tonight's) video comes from Kathryn Bigelow's underrated vampire western hybrid Near Dark. When this movie first came out, it was riding the heals of the recently released The Lost Boys and, because of that, it didn't do so well. However, over the years, it has gotten a pretty big cult following. While I have some problems with the film myself (the ending felt forced... sorry, but this random, happy Hollywood route bothered me...), it is definitely something that needs to be watched by all horror movie fans. But yeah... I still prefer The Lost Boys. Sue me.

Anyways, the clip that I'm featuring from Near Dark is probably the most well-known scene from the film: the bar massacre. In this scene, our group of vampires (which happens to feature most of the cast from James Cameron's Aliens in the form of Lance Henriksen, Jenette Goldstein and Bill Paxton) take Caleb (Adrian Pasar) to a bar in hopes for him to discover his powers and finally achieve his first kill as a vampire.

Keep in mind that, in this film, the word "vampire" is never once used and that there are no fangs or anything like that. The only rule that really applies is that they have to stay out of the sun and they need to drink blood to stay alive.

This scene is pretty insane as the vampires basically take the bar and its inhabitants apart. Bill Paxton definitely stands out as he gets a little crazy. His best line? "I hate it when they ain't been shaved."

That or "It's finger-lickin' good!"

Yeah, basically everything he says is gold. Watch the scene below. Be warned, it's a little on the gory side.
