Tropic Thunder Knocks Dark Knight Out of Number One Spot

According to estimates by Box Office Mojo, Ben Stiller's Tropic Thunder finally knocked The Dark Knight out of the number one spot on the box office this weekend. Tropic Thunder grossed an estimated $26 million this past weekend (and $37 million since Wednesday) while The Dark Knight managed another $16.7 million this past weekend, bringing its total up to an insane $471.5 million.

I guess this is big news as The Dark Knight has been sitting at the number one spot of the box office since it came out a month ago (beginning tomorrow). It's crazy that the thing has been at number one for so long. Right now, it is the second highest grossing film of all time as it surpassed Star Wars total this past weekend (it was $460.9 million) with only Titanic standing in it's way (with an insane $600.7 million in its pocket). Will it beat the Titanic? I doubt it. But it sure would be nice as it definitely deserves it more than that film did. Still, this film isn't slowly down even a little. It may not beat Titanic but its definitely going to make a crap load of money anyway.

The universally panned Star Wars: Clone Wars opened at number 3 this weekend (with $15.5 million) much to my delight. Sure, it didn't bomb but it definitely didn't do great either. If it somehow was able to dethrone The Dark Knight from its top spot, I would have lost my freaking mind. Luckily, Tropic Thunder, which was actually pretty funny (I'd give it in between a 7 and 8 /10), was able to do that instead (and I'm pretty sure Robert Downey, Jr. in black face had a lot to do with this). Still, if you went to see Clone Wars this weekend, I feel sorry for you. Going to see this film in the theater is basically like giving George Lucas $7.50 to kick you in the privates for two hours.

Lame, but DK will still make 500 mil easily in the next couple of weeks. I have still got to go see Tropic Thunder. You need to review that man.
