News Roundup!

I could not find any news of such importance or coolness that it warranted its own post. So here is a breakdown of the news today so far...

Hancock Wins 4th of July Weekend

If you did not see this coming, you're just an idiot. Hancock has banked an estimated $107.3 million for the week since its release on Tuesday, July 2 ($66 million from Friday-Sunday). This marks Will Smith's 5th straight Fourth of July weekend at # 1 (Independence Day, Men in Black, Wild Wild West, and Men in Black II are the other 4), and his 8th straight #1 release. And with $78 million from overseas, this looks like one of the summer's biggest blockbusters. The entire top 10 is as follows:

1. Hancock $66.0 million
2. WALL-E $33.4 million
3. Wanted $20.6 million
4. Get Smart $11.1 million
5. Kung Fu Panda $7.5 million
6. The Incredible Hulk $4.9 million
7. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull $3.9 million
8. Kit Kittredge: An American Girl $3.6 million
9. Sex and the City $2.3 million
10. You Don’t Mess with the Zohan
$2.0 million

I cannot tell you how many times I have sat down and tried to write my review for Hancock. What I can tell you is that the review is never going to happen. You all won't miss it anyway and if you choose not to see Hancock, you won't miss it either.

No Superbad Sequel!

Seth Rogen in a recent interview with MovieHole denied that a there will be a Superbad 2, but gives the OK for a Pineapple Express 2.

“They’re been wanting us to do a sequel to Superbad for so long – but we’ve held off. We eventually said No. But this one, it’s not a precious coming-of-age story like Superbad, it’s a weed action-movie and if it did well, and they gave us like $50 million dollars (as opposed to the $26M we got for this one) we could benefit from that.”

Peter Sciretta at /Film has said that Pineapple Express has been tracking well according to some people that he has talked to. I have personally been looking forward to this, and I am saddened that Superbad will not get a sequel. But maybe that is for the best.

Unknown is Alice in Tim Burton's Wonderland

There are rumors floating around the Hollywood scene that Ryan Nikole Parker (yeah, I don't know either) is going to be the next Alice in Tim Burton's version of Alice in Wonderland. Cinematical has the inside scoop from the relative of a music supervisor working on the film, and wants to make it very clear that these are just rumors until the official press release on July 9th.

I like it when an unknown gets cast in a high profile movie. Apparently Burton already has his full cast, and its just a matter of time until the rest of us know. This is starting to look interesting!

I'm sick of Will Smith. While I don't deny enjoying some of his movies, he's just starting to get on my nerves. His movies don't even look like they have a plot line anymore. It's just alot of him saying cool, black-guy-lingo stuff and wearing sleeveless shirts. Lame.
